Our good friend and organizing Guru, John Trosko (featured on Daily Candy last week, lucky dog!), asked us if we would be the official photographers for the charity event, fresh stART 2006. Adi and I love being involved with local charities, but especially ones that support the arts! It’s so nice to mix up the current wedding season!
Last night, Los Angeles locals, art lovers and celebs arrived in droves to benefit therapeutic art programs for at-risk youth. fresh stART also provides “potential Los Angeles collectors with a personal connection to both established and emerging artists.”
Co-Chairs Cris McCall and Sally Horchow McCauley (these girls know everyone!) must have been absolutely thrilled with the phenomenal turnout of their event. The crowds started lining up more than an hour before it began. Within minutes of the doors opening, the little red dots started appearing across the walls of the Santa Monica Art Studios at the Santa Monica Airport. Nearly one hundred artists donated a portion of their proceeds to My Friend’s Place and A Window Between Worlds.
Here are a few of the hundreds of pics that we captured of the fresh stART supporters.

  • John Trosko - Adi and Cat,

Thank you so much for your incredible help last evening. I know the thanks will not stop with me. There are so many people that will be seeing your pictures in the days and months (and even years to come) and I deeply appreciate your committment and generosity to the community, and to our event.

The pictures you took are amazing, the lighting, art and people really look magical. I am so honored!

Nanette and Brent are two of our favorite people. We loved them from the moment we met them at our first meeting 12 months ago! These two are an inspiration to brides and grooms. Besides being extremely cool and creative, over the last 6 months, they have collectively lost almost 100 pounds! Can you believe that!?
The incredible wedding at the Los Angeles River Center and Gardens, designed by Nanette and Kerim Albanes, from My Wedding Blooms, was just stunning. Kerim showed off his amazing floral talents (as usual). He also provided N&B with a cozy (yet modern) corner of fluffy white sofas. Of course, let’s not forget those Chivari Chairs!! Tess, from Artisty By Tess, did the VIP make-up and hair-styles of the whole bridal party.
Nanette named Next Exit Photography, Tess and Kerim her “Dream Team” on the day-of. Adi and I were so honored to be a part of it! I wrote Nanette to tell her that I would be blogging her wedding today and she emailed me back from Hawaii on her honeymoon (returning tomorrow, I think) Welcome home, Nanette and Brent! And, congrats on your amazing wedding!

  • Cinegirl - Nannersp, I think you should know that I sent all the girls from the Knot over here to peek at your pictures since we haven’t seen them yet! Congrats!

  • Nanette - Cinegirl – Thanks for the heads-up! 🙂 I’m glad you shared them with the Knotties!

Cat & Adi – Brent and I are so, so, so impressed with these photos! I’m exploding with excitement! You too are amazing and we’re ecstatic that we hired you! You were/are so fun to work with and I look forward to seeing the rest of your awesome work!

Dayna contacted Next Exit Photography after seeing Adi and I in action at Nicole and Vince’s wedding in the summer of ’05 at the Ritz Carlton in Laguna Niguel. She was one of the adorable bridesmaids in Nic’s bridal party. Although she and Jason live in Seattle, Washington, they hired us to shoot their SoCal wedding in Temecula, California, at the incredible Ponte Winery and Vineyards.
After many weeks of unpredictable Los Angeles weather, rainy days and chilly nights, Dayna and Jason got married under the perfect blue sky and in the soft warm wind that they had dreamt of. Dayna’s Paloma Blanca gown showed off her perfect figure. Her make-up and hair were designed by Erin Kennan from the Ricca Donna Salon in Brea. The exquisite florals were created by Allsion Stevens at the Magnolia Flower Shoppe in Temecula.
On the garden lawn, the ceremony was officiated by Reverend Robert Jabro, with views of thousands of rows of grape vines. The reception held in the barrel room was romantically candle lit and cozy. DJ Mike Shroyer rocked the house from Good Time Entertainment.

  • Dayna and Jason - Adi and Cat,
What can we say…these are AMAZING!!! The pictures are so wonderful and I can’t wait to see the rest of them!
You both are so great and we loved working with you!
Thank you so much for everything!
    Dayna and Jason

  • Jen - You guys are beyond fabulous. LOVE your work!!!!

  • Erin - Hey, This is Erin, the makeup artist from Dayna’s wedding. The pictures really turned out amazing! You two really know how to capture true beauty…I’m very impressed. It was good working with you two again!

Adi and I were so honored to be invited to the Upward Bound House Gala Dinner at the Skirball Center last night by my former wedding clients, Jen and Peter, and Jen’s mother, Mugsy. Every year, Mugsy generously sponsors a dinner table and invited us to be her guests. There was an inspiring speech given by Ken “Coach” Carter who reminded us to give back to our communities. I wholeheartedly agree. Adi and I donated a portrait sitting to the silent auction and were thrilled when Mugsy announced to the table that she had won it and is planning on using it for herself and her new grandson (Jen and Peter’s baby, of course) who is due in six weeks!
Jen and Peter had the most amazing wedding at Shutter’s on the Beach in July ’05. They definitely win the award for the couple who literally created the wedding of their dreams. Jen made her own linens and runner, ribboned 1000 candles, created a teddy bear toss for the 32 kiddies (instead of a bouquet toss) and that’s just the beginning. Watch out, Martha!

Spent a fabulous afternoon dining at Hal’s on Abbott, shopping on Main Street, cruising Venice Beach and hunting for celebs with Vanessa Hall, one of the most talented wedding photojournalists in Australia, and her adorable assistant, Rachel. Of course, I had to introduce them to Samy’s Camera where I convinced them both to buy a toy camera Holga and Vanessa convinced herself to buy a new 50mm 1.4. (Adi’s favorite lens)
The lovely ladies are in Los Angeles in anticipation of the international photographer’s conference in Vegas next week. All of the biggest and best will be present at WPPI, a week of indulgence for wedding and portrait photographers. Of course, I have to give a shout out to my DWF buddies, too. “I love you guys!”
This will be Adi’s and my third year in attendance at WPPI. Aside from the incredible trade show and inspiring lectures, Adi and I have entered a few prints into the worldwide competition. Last year, Adi won an honorable mention for his beautiful print, “Penny Among Giants.” Who knows if we’ll take one home this year?!

  • Vince Anido - Samy’s is a very dangerous place to take a photographer with a credit card. 😉

    Good luck in Vegas!
